A
good dose of common sense can go a long way. Please remember you are
in control of your rented boat while on the water. There are no guides.
Montana's lakes and rivers are a natural, dynamic environment with possible
downed trees, rocks, fluctuating water levels and man-made obstacles.
The weather can change rapidly be prepared for anything.
We
Recommend:
- If
you are a novice paddler stay closer to shore that's where
the best sightseeing is anyway!
- Don't
paddle alone; enjoy the sport with others it's fun!
- If
paddling in a group stay together at all times.
- If
planning a longer paddle, be prepared for anything. Bring a first
aid kit, some emergency supplies, extra food and water, extra clothing,
etc. Also, dress for the water temperature and be prepared for the
possibility of getting wet.
- Beware
of hypothermia.
- Check
the weather before you go, especially if venturing onto Flathead Lake.
Make sure there are no predicted lake wind advisories. Sudden winds
can churn calm waters into turbulent seas within minutes!
- Use
an eyeglass strap for eyeglasses or sunglasses.
- STAY SOBER! Rember, alcohol and water do NOT mix, and are potentially a lethal combination.
